During the residency at Hampi Art Labs, the series of artworks explores the profound layers of Hampi's cultural landscape, moving beyond its famed ancient ruins and unique topography. The project delves into the rich, yet often overlooked, narratives of communities residing within the historical context of the Vijayanagara empire, particularly the Lambani or Banjara community.
The work is dedicated in embracing their culture, to understanding their traditions and the oral narratives they carry across generations. This immersive research has provided a unique opportunity to learn about their textile patterns, techniques, their authentic jewellery and accessories specific to their heritage.
Through a mixed-media art form, these compelling oral histories are translated into visual expressions. The aim is to illuminate the intricate dance between their past and present, showcasing how their heritage continues to shape their contemporary lives.
