The Coffee Cream, a cafe at Tirur, is a second branch of their flagship cafe at Kottakal, Malapuram, Kerala. It is a prominent cafe in the locality that invites a wide varied group of customers.
The client approached with a project brief of the story of 'the genesis of mocha coffee in India'. As per their initial idea, the story was meant to be calligraphed onto the walls of the cafe. The story had an interesting prospect which rather than a calligraphy could be portrayed to an illustrated diagram that could bring out the essence better. Thats how the idea for the illustration was conceived.
The story was illustrated as a conversation between the barista of the cafe and the customer. Barista takes us through the folklore of the origin of Mocha coffee in India. The story is unveiled from the historical setting of Mocha, a port city of Yemen. It is said that an Indian Sufi Saint Baba Budan brought the coffee beans to India while on his visit to Mecca to perform the holy Hajj. He visited the Mocha city and encountered with this hot beverage and the rest is history.
Now no need to go in search of the history just read through my illustration, Gotcha!
